Volunteers Power Our Mission
At Youth Celebrate Diversity (YCD), everything we accomplish begins with people who care. Above all, YCD is a grassroots, community-driven, people-powered organization that depends on the passion, generosity, and dedication of volunteers to turn ideas into impact. From mentoring young leaders and supporting events to helping behind the scenes and serving on committees, our volunteers make it possible for thousands of high school students to build more just, inclusive, and connected communities across Colorado. Every hour volunteered helps empower youth voices, strengthen local communities, and create lasting change. Volunteer Responsibilities
Depending on the event, volunteer responsibilities may include:
Setting up event spaces
Assisting with registration and check-in
Greeting attendees
Directing guests
Supporting activities
Providing general event assistance, and helping with cleanup at the end of the day
Every volunteer works alongside YCD staff members who provide guidance, answer questions, and ensure volunteers understand their roles and responsibilities before and throughout the event. Whether you're lending a hand for a few hours or supporting an all-day event, your time and commitment help create meaningful experiences for the young people and communities we serve.
Onboarding Process
Adult volunteers (over the age of 18 or graduated from high school) are required to agree to and pass a background check with YCD prior to volunteering. They must also provide two character references. This policy is in place to keep youth in our program safe in all YCD spaces. The vetting and onboarding process generally requires 3-5 days to process.
Once a prospective adult volunteer is approved by YCD, they are eligible to volunteer at any event for the next five years. They can choose which events they wish to sign up for, and pick specific work shifts, so they understand start and end times.
Youth volunteers (17 and younger) are exempt from the background check requirement. However, they must either volunteer with a club or group, or have a parent/guardian present during their volunteer work shift.
